JABLONSKI, Max, (Polish, 1880-1940): Village of Preny, France, 1917, 6.25'' x 15'', signed lower right, titled ''Preny'' and dated 1917, unframed. The Village of Preny was involved in World War I, having been part of the Hindenburg line. The movie ''!917'' is loosely based on the Hindenburg line and apparent German retreat. It is unsure if this painting was done before or during the battles that took place in and around the village, or if Jablonski was a soldier involved in the fighting for either side. CONDITION: several scattered flecks of loss, abrasion in upper margin, could use cleaning. |
