Married to renowned Canadian artist George Agnew Reid, Mary was a very important painter in her own right. She was the daughter of Reading, Pennsylvania doctor John P. Heister. One of the first women accepted into the Ontario Society of Artists and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Reid was also very active in the Women's Rights movement of the time.
