241 Click for larger picture Rare 1851 US SPRINGFIELD CADET MUSKET: Lock dated 1851, partial eagle and US remain on plate, .57 caliber, 40'' barrel. Inspector marks V.P. on barrel, US stamp on butt hardware. According to Flayderman 300 of the 4000 rifles produced went to cadets at VMI. From Southern family, however cannot verify Confederate use. Measures 55'' overall.
CONDITION: Needs spring repair, note dings to wood typical of age, carrying ring has split. Social security number has been engraved on trigger guard.

Providence R.I. on lockplate, Cast-Steel 186? on barrel. 2 inspectors cartouche on left wrist. Has original sidebar and saddle ring. Breech and action work fine. Clean bore.
CONDITION: Gun shows signs of use with nicks and dings and wear to wood and barrel. Please call for condition

A member of Co. E, 14th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Handwriting is faded and very hard to read, however have been able to make out some reference to fighting Rebs, shots heard throughout the night and capture of Rebs. 900

Massachusetts-Bay: Printed for I. Thomas, in Worcester; B. Edes, in Watertown; and S. & E. Hall, in Cambridge, [1775]. Duodecimo, printed wrappers, 18 (of 24) pp. Also sewn-in is a 42-page handwritten record of accounts for the years 1779-1782, by an unknown recorder. Although the Almanac is lacking several pages, it does contain: ''An Account of the Commencement of Hostilities between Great-Britain and America, in the province of Massachusetts-Bay, by the Rev. Mr. William Gordon, of Roxbury.,'' pp. [5-16]; ''A Short History which sheweth how the Charters of the city of London, with other parts of old England, and the British Colonies in New-England were taken away in the Reign of King Charles the IId.,;'' ''Sir Richard Rum's Advice to the soldiers and others;'' and the first page of ''Directions for preserving the Health of the Soldiers in the camps.''
