127 | PERSIAN NAIN HAND KNOTTED WOOL AND SILK RUG, 9' 10'' x 13' 10'': This beautiful Persian rug is extremely finely woven with a pile of wool with silk highlights using a palette of blues, greys, beige, white, black, and red. The design of the rug is a traditional large round medallion with the design elements getting larger as they radiate out from the center. The intricacy of the design is accomplished because of the fineness of the weave. This rug was woven by four or five weavers sitting side by side using a cartoon (a complex drawing of the complete design) that they would refer to for the number of knots for each color in each row. A rug of this quality probably took almost two years to complete! The silk highlights add to the complex beauty of this rug. This was a very expensive rug to begin with and it still is a very valuable rug. This would add to the prestige of any home. CONDITION: There are three small spots on this rug. |

128 | PERSIAN NAIN HAND KNOTTED WOOL AND SILK ROUND RUG, 5' DIAMETER: This very finely woven rug has a small central round medallion in shades of blue with highlights of red and beige. The surrounding field has a white field that is covered with all types of flowers linked by vines. The large main border also has a white ground and it is edged by smaller blue ground borders. Round rugs are more difficult to weave than the usual rectangular rugs because it is hard to keep the tension of the warp threads even so that the rug itself will be even and not rippled or off center. This is a beautiful rug that would be a conversation piece in your home. CONDITION: There are some slight stains. |
