201 Click for larger picture RARE JEFFERSON DAVIS SIGNED CONFEDERATE NAVAL COMMISSION: Commission to Hamilton H. Dalton to the rank of First Lieutenant in the Navy of the Confederate States. Dalton was an officer on the Ironclad CSS Richmond and would eventually become commander of the Richmond in February of 1865 until it's intentional destruction to avoid capture on April 3rd, 1865. Commission is signed by Jefferson Davis and Stephen Mallory, Secretary of the Navy and dated April 28th 1863, with an effective date of October 2nd, 1862. Sight size 13 1/2'' x 16 1/2'', modern framed under Lexan 15'' x 18''.
CONDITION: Note spotting, toning to paper.

202 Click for larger picture CONFEDERATE VIRGINIA MILITIA ARTILLERY COMMISSION: Commission to Walter D. Leake appointing him Captain in the Virginia Militia Artillery, 2nd Regiment, 3rd Regiment, 2nd division. Leake's unit was subsequently called Leake's Company, Virginia Light Artillery and was attached to the Army of Tennessee and saw service in South Carolina and Tennessee, suffering heavy losses at Shiloh. Commission is signed by Gov. John Letcher and dated July 29, 1861. Sight size 7 1/2'' x 9 3/4'', framed under glass 9 3/4'' x 12 3/4''.
CONDITION: Note toning, some minor bleed through of writing on back.

The center is a pencil drawing of a chariot driver and figures, approximately 2 1/2'' x 13''. The bottom mural study board is 5 3/8'' x 18'' and depicts middle eastern scenes with elephants parading and a bizarre on the street in the city, right scene size is 2 1/4'' x 8 1/4'', the scene on the left is 2'' x 5''. The bottom board is signed verso KAROLY and ZSANTO. All pieces are affixed to a backboard which measures 14'' x 18'' overall, unframed.
CONDITION: The middle picture drawing has some tape repairs, no visible signature. The upper and lower boards are creased. Sold as is.
