1051 | 19 RICHARD BISHOP GREETING CARDS AND ETCHINGS: From the Artist Ernest Roth Estate Collection. Roth was known to exchange etchings with other artists as Christmas greetings and tokens of esteem. In this collection are 19 etchings done by Robert Bishop, most on deckled edge paper and some with dates ranging from 1923 to 1949. 15 depict his most favorite subject, fowl in flight, 1 interior scene and 1 important scene of Goose Pond N.H. (5.875''h x 3.75 imp.). Most are signed in the plate with 3 being graphite signed. The largest 5.875''h x 8.375'' overall. Certainly, an impressive grouping of some of Bishops signature work. 1053 | 2 IMPORTANT SOCIETY OF ETCHERS WORKS BY ROBERT LAWSON AND LESTER HORNSBY: We offer ''We Fix Flats'' an etching by Robert Lawson depicting Pegasus being shod in the deep forest by a grouping of elves which was made only for the members of The Society of American Etchers and used as the Societies Print for 1932. Proofs could be obtained through no other channel. Overall 11.5'' x 14'', 6.875'' x 8.875'' plate size on deckled paper and sold with society presentation mat and tissue. Signed RL in plate and graphite signed Robert Lawson, imp. lower right margin.; Also included in this lot Lester B. Hornsby's Etching ''Palais du Justice in the Rain'' showing the conciergerie where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned just behind the Palais. This is the 11th presentation print, 1 of only 250 produced in 1920, with the plate being printed on English handmade paper and bears the Seal of The Chicago Society of Etchers lower left and graphite signed lower right L.G. Hornsby. Copies only were available through associate membership in the Chicago Society of Etchers. 12.125''h x 8.625'' overall, 7.75''h x 6'' plate size.
