175 | 6 PC SHIP CAPTAIN PAINTING LOT: 5 OIL/Board paintings, 1 OIL on rock done by 19th C Michigan ship Capt. Eugene D. Allen. He owned the schooner ''Wabash'' in the Detroit area and delivered dry goods from Cincinnati up the Detroit River during the Civil War. The largest is an English river scene with figures and church, Oil/Board, 18'' x 24'', no visible signature, encased in gold frame with wear, 22'' x 27 1/2''. Information inscribed verso by family member. Some cracklure and several minor abrasions with paint fleck. The smallest is an Oil/Flat Stone depicting a western landscape with rushing river and figures, 3 1/2'' x 6'', signed E. Allen. Abrasions with some paint loss throughout. Next is a Oil/Canvas mounted on wood, river scene with island and figures, 5'' x 8'', in a worn gilded frame, 6 1/2'' x 9 1/4''. Needs cleaning. Also a Lakeside scene with small sailboat, Oil/Canvas on wood, 5'' x 8'', gilded frame with wear, 6 1/2'' x 9 1/4''. And two Oil paintings on artist's wood pallet, one of a rushing river through a rocky mountain scene, 11'' x 10'', no visible signature. Needs cleaning, several abrasions/gouges. The other a calm river scene, 11 1/2'' x 10'', no visible signature. Scattered abrasions with paint flecks. These items have been passed down through the family of the artist. Sold as a set, as is. CONDITION: Please see body of description to keep condition with correct piece. |
