CONDITION: Rubs and minor pitting, one tiny piece of brass wire starting to lift.
1157 Click for larger picture SEMI-ANTIQUE PERSIAN HERIZ HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 10' x 17' 6'': This palace sized Heriz has a tomato red field with a large red and black ground central geometric shaped medallion that is outlined in white in the central red part and pale blue around the black outer medallion. Large spandrels that look like a cross between a palmette leaf and a water bug extend from either end of the medallion. There are large white corners to the central field that each has a quarter lobe of the central medallion within them. Both the red and white areas of the field are covered with very large leaves and smaller flowers joined by vines that are executed in reds, whites, black, yellow, and blues. Although this rug is not of the finest weave, it is very striking in its overall impact. Condition is good. 1200

1161 Click for larger picture 1886 SIR RICHARD FRANCIS BURTON AUTOGRAPHED LETTER: Hand written letter signed by English explorer and author Sir Richard Francis Burton, 2 pages folded 8vo, Burton writes to Mr. Tiseng, ''I have received? of 2 December and was sorry to hear that the MSS is a desideratum. As regards the 500 francs asked for the Oran MSS the sum is certainly exaggerated unless it be a very fine and perfect copy of a new historical celebrity. I trust to your kindness that you will kindly continue your exerations in my favor. As regard to the 2 oposcules I take one and return to you the other which has been in my library for some time (by Postrepistero) I hope soon to be in Paris, then to pay my debt in person unless you prefer my sending it over now. 1185 Click for larger picture PAIR CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE PORCELAIN RETICULATED LAMPS: Late 19th century, each formed as a finely pierced six-sided ''bulb'' on a separate footed stand. The stand is attached to a gilded brass base with embossed decoration, and the lamps have been electrified. The lanterns have been hand painted on a yellow ground with blue borders, each with six round medallions containing flowers and precious objects. Remarkable are the hand painted medallions on each lantern has a ''mirror image'' painting on the other lantern. Overall measures 13 1/4'' h. x 6 1/2''. 800

A foo dog finial tops the lid, with four raised foo dog heads spaced at the shoulders. Fired in a wood kiln on a sand base, this jar may date from the Daoguang reign (1821 - 1850). Overall 14 1/2'' h. x 8 1/4''.
CONDITION: Rubs to body, firing cracks on base do not continue into interior.

Passed down through the family, reportedly gifted by Dow to Priscilla Coy Hynson around 1920, and passed down through the family.
CONDITION: Frame shows wear and some separation in the corner, has been painted in gold, painting has been relined, shows minor craquelure and repair to tear in the lower mid margin, several minor spots of inpaint (older restoration). Could use cleaning.
