Karlis Saumanis graduated from the Janis Tillbergs Figurative Painting Workshop of the Academy of Art of Latvia in 1931. In his creative work he turned to idealized olden times, painting the festivals and people of Courland dressed in folk costumes. In 1944 he immigrated to Germany, in 1946 - to the USA. 100
