Surgeon USV by his friends of Stone Gen'l Hospital, Aug. 17th, 1864''. Patrick Glennan was in charge of Stone General Hospital in Washington DC during the Civil War and commissioned to Assistant Surgeon US Volunteers on May 18th, 1864. His son James Glennan oversaw the construction at Walter Reed General Hospital as a Brigadier General in the 1920's. Militia sword grip with gilt bronze eagle finial, silver grip, spread eagle over shield cross guard. Unmarked 31'' frosted blade with foliate, stand of arms, US eagle and motto, and other military decoration. Engraved brass scabbard with traces of gilt remaining in protected areas, gilt mounts. 1209A | APPROX 20-35 YR OLD SINO-PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUNNER, 2'6'' x 10': This softly colored runner has a repeating central pattern of a rectangular platter surrounded by sprays of small flowers alternating with a large vase of flowers. These two designs run down the center of the field. On either side are half motifs of the same two patterns. The main border has a light blue ground that is covered with alternating flowering plants. The mostly pastel colors are accented by deep blue and wine color highlights. Condition is good. | 400 | |
