These vines loop around each bouquet setting them apart from each other but linking the overall design together. The only thing not realistic about the roses are the blue tone leaves that they are on. A pretty, feminine rug. CONDITION: There are some slight stains. Approx. 55.5 pounds. |

Smith specialized in painting marine and sea landscapes and was assumed to be self-taught. He regularly exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Smith worked in oils and watercolors and painted in a tighter style than the emerging impressionists, making him more of a realist. CONDITION: Relined, mild craquelure, scattered inpaint, needs cleaning, several flecks of paint loss, frame shows wear and loss of gilt, sold as is. |

ROSENBERG, Louis (American, 1890-1983): 2 Etchings of Construction Work Being Done in Downtown Cleveland. 1) Pillars and Scaffolding with Men at Work, sight size 11.75'' x 8'', pencil signed lower right, framed, 22.5'' x 17.75''. 2) Construction of Tower with Scaffolding, sight size 11.5'' x 7.75'', pencil signed lower right, framed, 22.5'' x 18''. Rosenberg first studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and then at the Royal College of Art, London, to study etching techniques. He traveled much of Europe to do architectural etchings focusing on Rome, Venice and Constantinople. His engravings and etchings are held by several prestigious organizations including the Smithsonian Institution, the Congressional Library, Washington, and the British Museum, London. Chapman was commissioned by the US Naval Academy to observe and paint pictures of the battles of 1812. Harper's Magazine Weekly commissioned him to do something similar for the Spanish American War. A variety of pink and red flowers are found among other smaller flowers that are done in shades of blue. These flowers curve around the corners of the medallion. Tightly clustered groups of flowers and leaves done in colors that include a soft pink, burgundy, blue, and greens, form a medallion within a medallion in the center of the black field. Ribbon bows are seen in four spots on the outer medallion that go out to the rest of the field and the scattered flowers that are in the same colors as those in the medallion. Condition is good.
