Francis was a key artist in the revival of still-life painting in America and his style is very realistic. After his wife and 2 children died, he abandoned his career. His artistry was not recognized during his lifetime. CONDITION: Several obvious tears in need of repair, scattered craquelure, needs cleaning, frame shows wear with some loss of gilding. With Charles Seaton, Winfield Clime and Edwin Cassedy, Moore became a founding member of an informal group who called themselves ''The Ramblers Sketch Club.'' This group roamed the countryside, painting and critiquing each other's work and it eventually evolved into the respected Washington Landscape Club.
