Al Barnes inspiration for his paintings mainly came from his time spent in the Caribbean as well as from his home in South Texas. He has had many exhibitions to his credit and his work can be found in private as well as public collections around the world. 1100

1213 Click for larger picture FRANCIS, JOHN F, (American, 1808-86): Portrait of a Gentleman, Oil/Canvas, 30'' x 25'', signed on the canvas verso and dated 1854, period gilded gesso frame, 39'' x34.25''. Francis was a key artist in the revival of still-life painting in America and his style is very realistic. After his wife and 2 children died, he abandoned his career. His artistry was not recognized during his lifetime.
CONDITION: Several obvious tears in need of repair, scattered craquelure, needs cleaning, frame shows wear with some loss of gilding. Sold as is.

1230 Click for larger picture DETWILLER, Frederick, (American, 1882-1953): ''Facade of Notre Dame'', Oil/Canvas, 25.5'' x 19.75, signed lower left, titled ''Notre Dame de Paris, November, 1913'' verso on the canvas, several older exhibition labels affixed, period frame, 33'' x 26.5''.
CONDITION: Heavy scattered craquelure, needs cleaning, several minor abrasions, frame has been painted, worn, sold as is.

1233 Click for larger picture MOORE, Benson (American, 1882-1974): Sulfur Breasted Toucan, Color Etching, sight size 9.25'' X 7.25'', impression size 8.5'' X 6.75'', monogrammed lower right in the plate, signed in pencil lower left and dated, numbered 30 in lower right, original label affixed verso, frame, 19 X 14.75. With Charles Seaton, Winfield Clime and Edwin Cassedy, Moore became a founding member of an informal group who called themselves ''The Ramblers Sketch Club.'' This group roamed the countryside, painting and critiquing each other's work and it eventually evolved into the respected Washington Landscape Club.
CONDITION: Overall toning, not examined out of frame, sold as is.

1234 Click for larger picture MOORE, Benson (American, 1882-1974): ''Five Pound Island from East Gloucester Etching'', sight size 7.5'' X 6.5'', impression size 6.75'' X 5.875'', pencil signed lower left, monogrammed in plate lower right, condition size of 50, older label affixed verso, framed, 14.5'' X 13.25''. Benson Bond Moore was a noted painter of nature scenes before he became an Impressionist painter. He was part of over forty art organizations and painted numerous paintings for the Smithsonian.
CONDITION: Several spots of foxing, overall toning, not examined out of frame, sold as is.

Emile is known for his landscapes and marine scenes painted in an impressionist style. He is the son of Charles Paul Gruppe, the well known landscape artist.

Scribner Ames was a very experienced artist who later turned to writing.
