PFEIFFER, Auguste, (French, 1832-1886): Torquato Tasso, the noted poet/author, seated, with a copy of his famous poem, ''Jerusalem Delivered'', next to him on the floor, Bronze, 11'' h., 11.5'' w, signed, affixed to soothing green marble plinth. Tasso suffered from mental illness and died a few days before he was due to be crowned ''King of the Poets'' by the Pope. CONDITION: Several variations in patina, but fairly even overall. |
