The Dragon symbolizes power and in some cultures is said to be a source and guardian of water, a necessity for all in arid country sides. The Dragon in the central medallion of this rug is paired with a flaming pearl and surrounded by clouds. The pastel colors are on a black ground as are the four Dragons that are found in the four corners of the field. MODERN PERSIAN NAIN QUALITY HAND KNOTTED SILK ON SILK RUG, 3' 1'' x 5': This finely woven rug shows the skill of a weaver not only in the design of the rug but also in the choice of colors. The roundish central medallion has a red center set in a turquoise blue that is bordered by the red in a tracery design. It is set on a white ground that has realistically drawn leaves and palmettes joined by vines. These are done in the red, the turquoise, and yellow, pale rust, and deep blue on the white.
