1084 Click for larger picture ROBERT MEACHAM HISTORICAL FLORIDA DOCUMENTS AND TINTYPE: Important circa 1860'-1880's collection of documents, direct from the great-great granddaughter of Rev. Robert Meacham, a prominent African American in Florida history, born to white State Senator Banks Meacham and his slave mother. Robert Meacham became an influential AME minister, State Senator, Postmaster, Clerk of Court and Superintendent of Schools of Jefferson County, Postmaster of Punta Gorda, and Register, many of these position were the first for an African American in Florida. Included in this lot are: 1) Full plate tintype photo of Rev. Meacham. 6 1/2'' x 8 1/2'' 2) Commission from the Postmaster General John Creswell for his appointment to postmaster of Monticello 1869. 2) Commission from Brevrt. General John Pope to Register in Florida 1867. 3) Commission from Gov. Harrison Reed to Superintendent of Schools for Jefferson County. 4) Commission from Gov. Reed to Clerk of Circuit Court, Jefferson County 1868. 5) Commission from Gov. Ossian Hart to Superintendent of Schools, Jefferson County 1873. 6) Letter from the executive office signed by Sec. of State Crawford 1884, and letter from the Surveyor General dated 1884. 7) Appointment to postmaster Punta Gorda by the 1st Asst. Postmaster General United States 1884 8) Various AME Church documents. Most of the documents have splits and tears at folds due to poor storage. Please call for condition on all documents. 1300

1086 Click for larger picture 1832 AMES SPRINGFIELD ARTILLERY SWORD 1841 DATE: Pre Mexican war dated model 1832 foot artillery sword and scabbard. All brass hilt nice and tight with crisp full eagle on pommel and fish scale design. Cross guard is stamped MS which some collectors believe stands for Massachusetts, and underside with WS inspector, and MPL. ORD. Blade is clearly marked NP AMES SPRINGFIELD, verso UNITED STATES 1841 WS. Blade shows minor areas of age stain and has been sharpened on both edges. Blade shows marks from sharpening. Blade measures 19 1/8'' in length. Leather scabbard complete with excellent leather. Brass mounts with button frog. Leather frog appears to be period replacement. Drag tip mount has split to brass on backside. Overall length in scabbard is 25 3/4''. 700

Guard has numbers 15083 stamped on edge. Blade has bright finish with scattered minor areas of age stain. European markings near guard. Blade measures 30 1/2'' in length. Original leather washer. Original all metal scabbard has pitting throughout and dark age color. Many of these swords were imported to the South during the Civil War, but cannot document this sword as confederate. From a Florida estate and sold with Confederate Veterans magazine dated October 1914. 225
