1001 Click for larger picture SAMUEL CLEMENS MARK TWAIN AUTOGRAPHED LETTER SIGNED: Superb one-page autographed letter signed, with the original mailing envelope. Addressed entirely in Clemens's hand. The letter, dated January 28 (1905) and written on black mourning paper, reads as follows: ''Dear Sir (Edward Cobb): Mr. Benjamin has informed me of your generosity in the matter of the quick-claim deed and I thank you most heartily for it. I am obliged to write instead of calling in person because I am still confined to my bed with the remains of a long illness. Very Truly Yours, S.L. Clemens.'' William Crawford Plumley Estate. 1022 Click for larger picture SIMS, Charles, (United Kingdom, 1873-1926): Frolicking Cherubs in an Apple Orchard, Oil/Board, Sight size 17 1/2'' x 23 1/2'', encased in custom carved and painted frame 23 1/2'' x 29 1/2'', signed lower right, dated 1891. Purchased at Christie's East in October 1986, sold with catalog.
CONDITION: Needs cleaning, the custom carved and painted liner has been cracked in the upper right and lower right corners as well as the lower left and center margin, frame has scattered missing gesso.

CONDITION: Missing one bell and several bell tassels, repair to one ''tongue flame''. Other age and general use conditions. Shippers please note it is several parts for ease of moving.

CONDITION: Relined with several scattered spots of inpaint in the sky and a repair to tear in snowcapped mountains, visible evidence of water on the reverse canvas.

CONDITION: Minor toning, glue residue, abrasions and staining under mat in margins, glued to backboard.

CONDITION: Canvas laid on board, scattered inpaint, several minor flecks, there is some repair to the frame with bits of missing gesso in minor sections.

1048 Click for larger picture ROBERT A. WILSON PHOENIX BOOKS PORTFOLIO: A unique collection of correspondence from Robert A. Wilson, proprietor of the noted Phoenix Book Shop in New York and William Plumley. Included in the portfolio are letters, photographs of Wilson with Marianne Moore, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, John Weiners and more. Also included are 12 short stories by Wilson, and the book ''The Phoenix Book Shop, A Nest of Memories''. Robert Alfred ''Jump'' Wilson was born in Baltimore in 1922. Following service in the U.S. Army and the diplomatic corps, he eventually became the fifth owner of the Phoenix Book Shop in Greenwich Village and ran the shop from 1962 to its closure in 1988. He is the bibliographer of Gertrude Stein, Gregory Corso, and Demise Levertov, as well as the publisher of forty-three books including the work of Gertrude Stein, Marianne Moore, W.H. Auden, Allen Ginsberg, Elizabeth Bishop, and Richard Wilbur. His autobiography is entitled ''Seeing Shelley Plain'' (2001). From the William Plumley Estate. 125
