1101 Click for larger picture EARLY VAN BRIGGLE THISTLE VASE: Early 20th century, mottled olive green glaze over dark clay, with alternating embossed stylized thistles, every other one extending to rim. Partially obscured marks on base, readable is ''AA, Briggle, Spring, 0, 9, 30''. Identical to other examples marked with 1907/530. Overall measures 8 3/4'' h. x 4 1/2''.
CONDITION: The occasional minor abrasion may be discovered.

Grant as Brevet 2nd Lieutenant for the 4th Infantry Regiment where he served as Quartermaster. This was most likely signed as one of several for the book ''The Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant'' as this original signature is slightly off center of the one presented in the book. Light undetermined pencil signature lower right. Hand written on back of engraving reads ''This autograph is genuine- Bought of Bangs & Co. March 1885. Mr. Bangs told me that the picture was formerly in the possession of publisher Chas. L. Webster & Co. and hung in their office for many years. 1137 Click for larger picture APPROX. 15-25 YR OLD TURKISH HEREKE HAND KNOTTED SILK SMALL RUG, 1'4'' x 1'6'': This little jewel has an open pale peach field with a white ground central medallion that has pale yellow, red, and turquoise accents. The four corners of the field are filled with a leaf and vine design in shades of pale yellow and white with red and blue accents. The multiple small guard borders and the white ground main border complete this pretty little rug. It would be suitable for hanging on the wall or placing on a table top for all to admire. 1147 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-30 YR OLD SINO-PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'1'' X 10'4'': This room size rug in a Kashan pattern looks like a larger rug than it is because of the white colored field that is covered with small flowers and palmettes linked by leafy vines and no central medallion. The main colors used are shades of pink, green, and white with accents of blue. The large main border has a green ground, a very desirable decorator color since it is not commonly found on Persian rugs. Condition is good. 800
