1152 Click for larger picture HEFFNER, Karl, (German, 1849-1925): Waterside Village, Oil/Panel, 16''x 24'', signed lower left, ebonized frame, 23'' x 31''. Mccoll Fine Art label affixed verso. Heffner originally studied music and was introduced to art while working for an English art dealer. He was a pupil of Johann Nepomuk Otto, Adolph Stademann, and Adolph Heinrich Lier. In the 1880s he was made an honorary member of the Academy of Munich, and obtained the title of professor from the prince regent. He is best known for his panoramic views of landscapes in Germany and England in particular.
CONDITION: Several minor bits of paint loss, and a repair to the board extending from one vertical margin to the other, barely noticeable under black light. Frame shows wear and loss, sold as is.

1158 Click for larger picture RIZEK, Emil, (Austrian, 1901-1988): Delft Canal Scene with Figures, Oil/Canvas 23 5/58'' x 25.75'', signed lower left, painted frame, 27.75'' x 29.75''. Christies label affixed to the frame lower right. Rizek was born to a father who wanted him to be an electrical engineer like himself. However, Rizek was interested in becoming an artist, took private lessons, traveled to Italy, France, Germany and Holland where he became recognized as part of the ''School of the Hague'' a group of Dutch Impressionists. As he traveled, teaching himself to paint, scenes of everyday work and life began to appear in his work. Rizek served in the Wehrmacht beginning in 1941 serving as a war artist and reporter, mainly in Finland. He was captured by the British army and spent months as a prisoner towards the end of the war. He was emotionally drained by his war time experiences, and found it challenging to return to painting.
CONDITION: Stretcher bar wear, scattered craquelure, several scattered flecks of paint loss. Sold as is.

CONDITION: Older reline with metal reinforcement, scattered inpaint, ready to hang on your wall.

Signed lower right, fine contemporary frame, 30'' x 27''. Provenance; commissioned by Family of Donald B. Stegner of NJ, for original mural that hung in Southern Drug, Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, Bond Street Gallery, SF, Laidlaw and Assoc, Galerie Adrienne. Exhibited ''Counterpoints: American Art 1930-1945'', Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, New York, 1991; ''The WPA Era: Urban Views and Visions'', Michael Rosenfeld Gallery, New York, 1992; ''Thomas Hart Benton'', Hirsch and Adler Gallery, New York, 1994. Benton was a painter and muralist who was a leader in the Regionalist art movement. The son of a politician, he rebelled to pursue art and was supported emotionally and financially by his mother. He studied in Chicago and Paris and eventually came to live for over 20 years in NYC. During WWI, he served in the Navy doing work that he considered the most important to himself as an artist. He was directed to illustrate life in the naval yard and drew camouflaged ships so they could be painted accurately and to aid in identifying lost ships. Benton was muralist who portrayed realities that some people did not want recognized such as slavery and the KKK. He was perhaps the most important painter of the American scene.

1180 Click for larger picture LICHTENSTEIN, Roy, (American, 1923-1997): ''Composition IV'', (Musical Notes), 1995, Screenprint, sight size 17.5'' x 22.75'', sheet size 22 3/8'' x 27 3/8'', signed lower right, dated '95, numbered 16/120, printer's blind stamp lower right of sheet (Brand X chop), custom painted black frame, 26.5'' x 32''. Lichtenstein was an influential pop artist of the 60s. His pieces were heavily influenced by popular advertising and comic strips for which he was, initially, heavily criticized. His most noted works include ''Whaam!'', ''Drowning Girl'', and ''Nurse''. His first one man show at the Castelli Gallery in NY in 1962 was bought by prominent private collectors before the show opened.
CONDITION: Minor handling crease in lower left margin, under plexiglass which has a couple of abrasions, margins exhibit slight undulation, but no evidence of moisture damage, reverse taped to mat verso with acid free, frame shows minor wear, sold as is.

1190 Click for larger picture HARING, Keith, (American, 1958-1990): Lithograph from the 3 Lithographs Suite, sight size 39'' x 31.5'', pencil signed lower right, dated '85, 67/80, blind stamp lower left, black frame, 41'' x 33.5''. Haring became known for his graffiti and cartoon art and was a well known contemporary artist in the latter part of the 1900's. Haring produced more than 50 public artworks between 1982 and 1989, in dozens of cities around the world. Many of his works focused on social messages. He died at the young age of 31.
CONDITION: Several pale spots, full margins, very minor toning, frame has wear, sold as is.
