1065 Click for larger picture NORTON, William Edward (American, 1843-1916): ''Breezy Day on the Thames'', Oil/Canvas, 23.25'' x 30.25'', signed lower right, also signed and titled verso, framed, 27'' x 34.25''. Norton sailed on family owned ships and developed a love for marine painting. He studied at the Lowell Institute and then studied in Paris with Chevreuse and Vollon. He was known for his scenes of the coast and the Thames. He exhibited in Boston, London, Paris and Chicago.
CONDITION: Heavy craquelure with uplifting in the upper mid-margin, sold as is.

1086 Click for larger picture TURLAND, George, (English, 1877-1947): Market Scene, Oil/Board, 20'' x 24'', signed lower left, framed, 22'' x 26''. George Turland Goosey designed several important buildings in America and was an accomplished etcher. In 1921, he returned to England to try his hand at painting and settled in the St Ives art colony. He developed an impressionistic style in oils and his paintings are much admired for their quality.
