1168 Click for larger picture SVENDSEN, Svend (Norway, 1864-1945): Haystacks Along a Snow Covered Road, Oil/Canvas, 25'' x 32'', signed lower right, framed 30'' x 37''. Svendsen moved to Chicago in 1881 to begin work as a lithograph artist, where he became known as one of Chicago's most important landscape painters. Eventually he moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Delecluse, one year after his exhibition debut in 1895. Svendsen was known for his intimate, and at times, even romantic landscapes.
CONDITION: Stretcher bar wear, needs cleaning, frame shows wear, sold as is.

1170 Click for larger picture APPROX. 20-30 YR OLD TURKISH HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'1'' x 10': This rug has the look of a pastel Oushak with its ivory field and the soft greens, yellows, and reds that color much of the design. There are two smaller central medallions and palmettes on either side of the center with other smaller motifs placed around the field. To complete the design there is a medium green ground main border with yellow, green, and pale red guard borders.
CONDITION: There are some slight stains visible.

1177 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-35 YR OLD SINO-PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL AND SILK RUG, 7'8'' x 10'8'': A very large central medallion with palmettes at each end is done in rose, pale pink, pale green and white and rests on a grayish ivory field. Over the rest of the field are delicately drawn flowers and leaves and vines done in the same soft colors. The white accents in the rug which especially stand out in the central medallion are silk highlights. The difference in the texture and the sheen of the silk add to the interest of this rug. The grey/blue guard borders, the rose/pink corners of the field and the main border complete the soft charm of this rug.
CONDITION: There is some shading and surface soiling but condition is mostly good.

1197 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-40 YR OLD TURKISH HAND KNOTTED COTTON PRAYER RUG, 2'7'' x 4'1'': This prayer rug features a ''Tree of Life'' coming out of a fancy vase at the bottom of the mihrab, or prayer niche. The flowering branches bend back down towards the bottom of the field. The branches are black outlines and the flowers come in different colors and rest on a white field. The corners at the top of the mihrab have a white field with yellow and red flowers surrounded by a pale green border. The outer borders consist of two yellow ground guard borders around a rust orange main border that is filled with various types of flowers.
CONDITION: There is some crushing of the pile and surface soil. A good cleaning would help.
