Katz and his contemporaries, Al Held and Philip Pearlstein, influenced the popularity of New Realism in the 1970s. He subsidized himself by hand carving frames and designing stage sets and costumes for the Paul Taylor Dance Company. His wife has been his model since they married in 1968. | 175 |

Friedlaender was a pioneer of the technically difficult aquatint etching process. From his atelier in Paris he instructed other artists who went on to become noteworthy and became experts in lithographic and etchings art, including Piza, Coudrain, Carcan and Boulanger.
