1015 Click for larger picture KOSSAK, Jerzy, (Polish, 1886-1955): ''Charge'', ''Szarza'', Depicts Soldiers on Horseback Invading a City in The Winter, Unstretched Oil/Canvas, 37'' x 55'' painted surface, signed lower right, dated 1922. The finished picture of nearly the exact scene was sold at Christies in 2009, dated 1924. Jerzy was the third generation of well respected artists. He specialized in military scenes with the famed Uhlan soldiers on horseback. Provenance; acquired from artist by great grandparents in Warsaw, Poland, given to grandparents, inherited by current owner, the great granddaughter.
CONDITION: Has been rolled, scattered flecking and loss, abrasions, needs cleaning, sold as is.

Enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, time and strike movement marked with Raingo Freres medallion. Overall measures approx. 27'' h. x 28'' x 8 1/2''.
CONDITION: Small chip to dial at left keyhole, maidens with a differing patina, one of the maidens staffs has broken. Currently running however not guaranteed to continue. Keys, pendulum and bell in office.

Original receipt available showing a purchase price of $21,000 in 1996 from Galerie Adrienne in San Francisco, CA. Paulemile as he preferred to be called, was the youngest brother of Camille Pissarro. He is known for his landscape paintings.
CONDITION: Probably could use re-stretch, frame shows minor wear, small puncture in mid right half center of painting.

Several earlier labels affixed verso. Guillaumin was a founding member of the group we now recognize to be the Impressionists including Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Sisley, Degas, Cezanne and Morisot. He became lifelong friends with Cezanne and Pissarro. He is remembered for his landscapes of Paris and his pieces can be found in major museums around the world.

After his father's death, Pettenkoffen lived with his cousin and became a student at the Academy of Fine art. He studied under Leopold Kupelwieser and Franz Eybl. 1044 Click for larger picture PRINS, Pierre, (1838-1913): ''Sent de Bris-Tete Cros-Rouvres 1886'', pastel, 7'' x 9.75'', signed lower right, original handwriting on the board visible verso along with typed catalog label and artist signature, gilded gesso frame, 16'' x 18''. Prinz was close friends with several of the Impressionists, such as Manet, Sisley and Bazille, but preferred not to take part in the artistic debates of the period. Although there are hints of Impressionism in his pieces, his style remained distinctively his own. Inspired by Manet, Prins began to work almost exclusively in pastels. As he was dying, Prins asked his heirs not to exhibit his work, nor to release work from his studio, for thirty years after his death. His work remained almost completely unknown for much of the period when that of his contemporaries rose to new heights. His paintings, pastels and drawings became better known after a retrospective exhibition at the Galerie Durand-Ruel in Paris in 1963. 1000

1046 Click for larger picture TOUDOUZE, Edouard, (French, 1848-1907): Milk Maid and Young Inspector, Watercolor, 20'' x 10.75'', signed in lower margin, unframed. Toudouze was born into a family that was very involved in art. He became a successful artist at a very young age. Many of his works can now be found in the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Rennes, France.
CONDITION: Glued down to back cardboard panel, overall toning and fading, several spots of foxing. Sold as is.

1052 Click for larger picture APPROX. 75-95 YR OLD PERSIAN SAROUK HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 10'6'' x 16'10'': This palatial sized Sarouk was woven with a traditional design and colors, sprays of flowers done in colors that include shades of blue, pale yellow, red, and white cover the pretty salmon red field. There are yellow and blue and blue and red guard borders on either side of the blue ground main border.
CONDITION: This rug has a velvety look that includes some shading and wear that is consistent with its age. Approx. 120 lbs.

1101B Click for larger picture APPROX 75-100 YR OLD PERSIAN KERMAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 7'8'' x 11'7'': This lovely old Kerman has been woven in a traditional design that is seen in the more desirable rugs from this weaving center and it is even more interesting because of the colors used in the design. Starting from the outside of the rug there is a pale green, red and white guard borders, a white main border and then a pistachio green and blue guard border. These are ''broken borders'' whose designs flow into the next border or field. On the red colored field is a central medallion in pale pink, green, blue, and red with green spandrels at either end. A wreath of flowers surrounds the medallion and from the end and sides more flowers come into the field so there is little open space.
CONDITION: There is an old repair at one end of the field and there is wear consistent with its age, but this is still a very good rug.

Round rugs are difficult to weave and this rug is not only round but has scalloped edges to boot! The hunters on horseback are trying to shoot the game animals with bows and arrows or scare them with scimitars while in the center a fellow relaxes at an oasis and smokes on a hookah. The scallops on the edge are done in alternating colors and designs that include birds and Kufic inscriptions.
CONDITION: There are some stains, some color run and the edges are a little frayed but it is still a neat rug.

Heffner originally studied music and was introduced to art while working for an English art dealer. He was a pupil of Johann Nepomuk Otto, Adolph Stademann, and Adolph Heinrich Lier. In the 1880s he was made an honorary member of the Academy of Munich, and obtained the title of professor from the prince regent. He is best known for his panoramic views of landscapes in Germany and England in particular.

Christies label affixed to the frame lower right. Rizek was born to a father who wanted him to be an electrical engineer like himself. However, Rizek was interested in becoming an artist, took private lessons, traveled to Italy, France, Germany and Holland where he became recognized as part of the ''School of the Hague'' a group of Dutch Impressionists. As he traveled, teaching himself to paint, scenes of everyday work and life began to appear in his work. Rizek served in the Wehrmacht beginning in 1941 serving as a war artist and reporter, mainly in Finland. He was captured by the British army and spent months as a prisoner towards the end of the war. He was emotionally drained by his war time experiences, and found it challenging to return to painting.

The large rounded central medallion with spandrels has satellite medallions radiating out from the main medallion onto the red colored field. The four corners of the field have quarters of the central medallions design done in the same soft colors of ivory, yellow, pale green, red, and black accents. The rest of the field is covered with a multitude of various small motifs also in the same colors as above. The borders have light colored grounds with a wide red panel alternating with a small round black medallion. This is a very elegant looking rug.
CONDITION: This rug is fresh from Tinney Rug Cleaners but there are still some stains, some visible wear, and some shading.

These sprays are done in colors of blues, pale yellow, white, red, green, and beige. A deep blue main border frames the field.
CONDITION: There is some shading and some visible wear, and the fringes are very worn, but overall this is still an attractive rug.

1209 Click for larger picture APPROX 30-40 YR OLD TURKISH HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUNNER, 2'2'' x 10': This Turkish rug has a geometric design that consists of four oblong medallions running down the field all linked and bordered by blue and white outlines with arrows at each end. The medallions are done in earth colors of brown and beige except for one with a white ground. They have inner design motifs that are basically the same for each medallion except for color variance. The medallions rest on a red field that has lots of abrash, or color change from one end to the other. Two small borders with simple repeating designs complete the runner.
CONDITION: There is some visible wear in the white medallion and on the red field as well.

These rest on a black field that has wide white vines at either end. From these vines come flowers and leaves that cover the rest of the field. The main border has a pattern of two styles of baskets of flowers that alternate all around the edge of the rug. Condition is good.

The edges of this part of the field are composed of stepped triangles that rest on a red outer field. A barber pole border is followed by guard borders with a traditional Caucasian design of flower heads and a meandering vine going round them. The white ground main border has a date cartouche with the date 1342 which would make this an early twentieth century rug. The serrated leaf and palmette design in red and blue is also a traditional Caucasian design.
CONDITION: The center black ground is very worn and there are places on the sides and ends that need attention.

These vines loop around each bouquet setting them apart from each other but linking the overall design together. The only thing not realistic about the roses are the blue tone leaves that they are on. A pretty, feminine rug.

Smith specialized in painting marine and sea landscapes and was assumed to be self-taught. He regularly exhibited at the National Academy of Design. Smith worked in oils and watercolors and painted in a tighter style than the emerging impressionists, making him more of a realist.

Paul resigned as a corporate executive in the late `70s to pursue his love of art. As a sculptor he has completed over 150 commissions and limited edition sculptures, many of which grace prominent public displays, museums, galleries and private collections around the world.
CONDITION: Plinth has been repaired with crack on right hand side. Needs further work, sold as is.

CONDITION: As far as condition goes - I can tell you the Angel comes with her arms and one wing in a bag; the Unicorn has had his horn reattached based on a sad note in the box; seems one of the candle holders has been reassembled if you look from the bottom. Basically a sound lot of sparkles. Sold as is, with 2 non Swarovski pieces.
