No visible mark to glass, possibly Dorflinger, bowl measures 8 1/2'' h. x 18'' dia., base 1 3/4'' h. x 10 1/4''.
CONDITION: Ding to rim, scratches to base of bowl. The occasional flea bite may be discovered.

1049 Click for larger picture APPROX 30-40 YR OLD PERSIAN ISFAHAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 6'5'' X 9'10'': The central medallion has a yellow diamond shape within a blue scalloped edge diamond shaped medallion. Each side of the medallion also have a spandrel extending onto the deep blue field that has yellow and blue corners. The balance of the field is covered with various size and color flowers, leaves, and palmettes. There is a lot of yellow and green in this rug, colors that are desirable and uncommon in most rugs. The dark blue main border and guard borders complete the rug.

The blue/black field has light blue and red corners. Then diamond shaped medallions are on either end of the red and white squarish central medallion. The red main border and medium blue guard borders frame the main field and complete the rug.
CONDITION: There are surface pulls probably from cat scratches on one end of the rug. Most of these can be trimmed.

The rest of the field has motifs that are all linked by vines and all point toward the center of the rug. The outer points of the medallion have small lobes with flowers around them. The center medallion also has an unusual distortion. There are also spandrels that extend from either end of the medallion into the red field. There are curvilinear motifs in medium blue, orange, ivory, and red in the fields corners and the rest of the field is covered with sprays of flowers. The orange, blue/white guard borders and the blue main border complete the rug.

The same pattern of the palmettes builds out from the center to cover all of the red colored field. There is good clarity of color and shape throughout the motifs of the rug.

Goya took his earliest art lessons from his father, who was a master gilder. As he became famous he was one of several artists who had an influence on French Romantic painters. He also studied etching with monks and eventually went to Madrid, where he was influenced by Giovanni Tiepolo, who did lighthearted historical genre scenes. As he was recovering from ill health, he did the work for which he is most known - satirical scenes.

1341 Click for larger picture TARKAY, Itzchak Isaac (Yugoslav, 1935-2012): ''III Women'' Serigraph, 27.75'' x 38.75'' with margins, signed lower right, numbered lower left 47/250, framed, 40'' x 51.5''. At the age of nine, Tarkay was sent to a Nazi concentration camp. After his release, he developed an interest in art. He and his family moved to Israel in 1949 and in 1951 he started studying art on scholarship until financial restrictions required him to leave school. Eventually he graduated from the Avni Institute of Art. Tarkay has exhibited extensively and his works can be found in many public and private collections.
CONDITION: Some scattered foxing in the margins with some tape glue residue and browning. Needs to be remounted, frame shows wear, sold as is.
