KIRMSE, Marguerite, (English, 1885-1954): ''Vigilantes'', German Shepards, Etching, sight size 11.5'' x 8.25'', pencil signed lower right, titled lower left, framed, 18'' x 14''. Kirmse was committed to her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London when she was urged by her friends to vacation with them in the U.S., and she did. Kirmse did not return with her friends but rather stayed in the U.S. to further advance her musical career which didn't go as she hoped. She explored and developed her artistic skills by frequenting the Bronx zoo. Etchings were her forte and where she signed her etchings, she did not number them as is the practice today. CONDITION: Mat toning around outer edges, not examined out of frame, sold as is. |

ROMANO, Emanuel Glicen, (Italian, 1897-1984): Seated Nude, Oil/Canvas, 30'' x 39.25'', artist label affixed verso, painted 1965, signed upper right, custom painted frame, 38.5'' x 47.5''. Emanuel was born to Henryk Glicenstein, a sculptor. Eventually his family emigrated to the U.S. and Emanuel changed his name to Romano wanting to achieve artistic success on his own merit. During and after WWII, Romano produced pieces graphically depicting the holocaust. He moved to Israel in the 1950s to establish a museum in his father's memory. His pieces are exhibited in a number of renowned museums and galleries including: Indianapolis Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston Fine Arts Museum, and the Musee Nacional de France. CONDITION: Some flecks of loss in lower right corner, possibly needs re-stretching and cleaning. Sold as is. |

HANDLEN, Frank, (American, 1916-): Coastal Surf and Rocks, Pastel, sight size 18.5'' x 24.75'', period frame, 24'' x 30'', signed lower left. In his early career, Handlen painted marine scenes in oils and pastels and his mentor encouraged him to move to Maine, so his favored subject matter was before him. He is a listed artist whose works are extensively owned by private and corporate collectors alike. CONDITION: Frame is either distressed or shows significant wear and loss. |

Anderson, grew up as the child of a tenant farmer in rural Georgia. She feels a connection to Frida Kahlo and the challenges she faced in her lifetime. Anderson was discovered in the early '80s after displaying her pictures at a local Georgia fair, and finds the world of art ''mystifying''. She paints from her memories and her heart. | 1700 |

AUSTRIAN, Ben, (American, 1870-1921): Summer Landscape with Stream, Oil/Paper, 7'' x 4 7/8'', signed lower right, dedicated verso and dated 1922, period wood frame, 8.5'' x 6.75''. Because of his poor health, Austrian spent a great deal of time on the family farm where his mother encouraged him to paint. While there, he became fascinated by hens and chicks which influenced much of his work. To promote the family business, he gave each customer an original oil painting. Eventually, he sold the family business to focus on his art. His success came from his paintings of chicks and chickens. In London he became known as the ''Landseer of Chickens''. One of his more successful ventures was the development of ads for the Bon Ami Company based on paintings that featured chicks. The trademark chicks are still used by Bon Ami today. CONDITION: Several abrasions with loss, paint is adhered firmly, sold as is. |
