Bodies with neo-classical putti and pan figures in Bacchanal scene, horned figure masqueron handles, affixed to round stone base. Overall measures 13'' h. x 7''.
CONDITION: Uneven patina.

1015 Click for larger picture FRIESZ, Achille-Emile Othon, (French, 1879-1949): ''Adam and Eve'' 1910, Oil/Canvas, 28.5'' x 12.25'', signed lower right, signed on the stretcher verso and dated 1910, framed, 36'' x 19.25''. Friesz was lifelong friends with Raoul Dufy and studied at the Le Havre School of Fine Arts with him. Together they went to Paris where Friesz met Matisse, Marquet and Rouault. They all rebelled academic teaching and became members of the Fauves and exhibited with them. Friesz recognized that his style was actually rooted in the more traditional. Over his last 30 years, he began painting in more somber tones more in the manner of Cezanne with a touch of baroque. Provenance: Estate of Yves Georges Prade

Roussel was associated with the group of Post-Impressionist, avant garde artists called Les Nabis (The Prophets in Hebrew and Arabic). Most of them, including Roussel, studied at the Acadamie Julian in the late 1880s. He is best known for his paintings of French landscapes. The second etching is the same except it is not signed. Foujita was a French-Japanese artist and spent most of his career in Paris. He associated with artists like Picasso, Braque and Rousseau.
