LEIGH, William Robinson, (American, 1866-1955): 4 Etchings, 1) Young Indian Girl Grinding Corn, 12'' x 9'' with margins, signed in the plate lower right, unframed; 2) Study of Two Dogs, 12'' x 16'' with margins, signed in the plate lower right, unframed; 3) Western Rocky Outcrop Landscape, 12'' x 16'' with margins, signed in the plate lower right, unframed; 4) Study of Three Donkey Heads, 12'' x 17.5'', signed in the plate lower right, unframed. Leigh studied at the Maryland Institute in Baltimore and the Royal Academy in Munich. He returned to the States and became sought after for his illustrations. In 1906 he found his calling with a trip to the Southwest to paint the Grand Canyon. He also painted Yellowstone National Park, but he was most interested in the Hopi and Navajo Indians.
