APPROX 25 TO 45 YR OLD CHINESE HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'3'' x 11'4'': This Chinese rug was woven in a French Aubusson formal design with some Chinese motifs thrown in for good effect. The velvety medium blue field has an open round central medallion composed of flowers around a Chinese motif. Scattered around the rest of the field are more Chinese motifs and small floral sprays. The main border has an ivory ground covered by sprays of flowers alternating with Chinese motifs. The rugs designs are highlighted by carving or sculpting that gives the designs and the colors shading and depth. CONDITION: There are some visible stains but this is still a pretty rug. |
