1005 Click for larger picture IMPORTANT 1936 ALBERT EINSTEIN ALS SIGNED LETTER: Hand written letter by Albert Einstein, dated December 30, 1936 to a Mr. Billikoph regarding the discrimination against Jews in Austria. Written in German, the translation as follows. ''Dear Mr. Billikoph, After careful study I am sending the article back. The stand of the Austrian government regarding the Jewish question is very interesting and plausible, a certain must from discrimination to our protection against the people. There is certainly something to it. (Refer to American Universities). I was happy to hear the planned marriage is alive again. The notice of content was very short, and I found the same approximately four weeks ago in the Times. With friendly greetings to you and your children, Your A. Einstein.'' Letter also has the word ''File'' written at the top center in another hand. Framed with brass plaques, sight size of letter is 6 1/2'' x 4 1/2'', frame 33 1/4'' x 16 1/2''.
CONDITION: Visible fold line in letter.

As a sculptor, Le Faguays has created monuments, ceramics, figural lamps and lithe female forms, all inspired by Tanagra, Athens, a city in Greece which is known for its Terra Cotta.
CONDITION: Minor wear to patina and several small specks to the base, sold as is.

As a third generation painter, the Kossak name was well sought after in the early 1900's. He specialized in realism, most specifically of military scenes.

1047A Click for larger picture APPROX. 20-35 YR OLD INDO-PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL ROOM SIZE RUG, 8'4'' x 10'11'': Traditional design and colors are the hallmark of this rug. The center medallion goes from a pale blue inner field to a white ground and finally to a dark blue color. There are also dark blue spandrels going out from either end of the medallion onto the red field. The four corners of the field are like portions of the center medallion. The rest of the field is covered with colorful flowers, leaves and palmettes. The main border has a dark blue ground.
CONDITION: The rug is slightly reduced in length.

The elephant also has a blurred stamping reading ''World Champion A's, 1929-1930''. Connie Mack adopted the white elephant as the mascot for the Athletics in 1901 when John McGraw of the New York Giants told a reporter that the owner Benjamin Shibe had a ''white elephant on his hands''. 1240A Click for larger picture APPROX. 75-100 YR OLD PERSIAN KERMAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 7'7'' x 11': This very nice old Kerman has the desirable overall cover to its field and contains some less common colors for a rug of its age. The pretty raspberry red field has a center medallion that starts with a pink center surrounded by an unusual green, edged by a raspberry red and ivory, and finally a deep blue, cranberry and ivory outer border. Around the medallion is a ribbon like vine that has various flowers and leaves circling the medallion and then spreading out to cover the rest of the field. From the ivory ground main border a broken border design with blue, red, and white shield like motifs goes through the green guard border into the main field.
CONDITION: The pile is pretty uniformly low and there are some visible stains in the ivory main border.

There are four lions with the raised sword and the sun on their back, I think the symbol for the shahs and for Persia/Iran. The four corners of the field have a rust red ground that is covered by rows of repeating flower forms.

1359 Click for larger picture ANTIQUE CAUCASIAN SHIRVAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL PRAYER RUG, 3'2'' x 5'4'': This rug has a lively geometric design that includes a central row of two patterns of medallions each with long lines that radiate out into the rest of the field. Botehs or paisleys, diamonds, and flower head shapes fill in the rest of the field. At the top of the mihrab or prayer niche are single botehs that indicate where the hands should be placed when praying. In the center of the top of the niche are two combs. They are symbolic of preparations for prayer. The trefoil guard borders and the design of the main border are also traditional to the Caucasus region.
CONDITION: This rug is quite worn, has had some repairs, and has some color run but it is still an interesting example.

Impression size is 22'' x 17''. Born into a poor family, Rouault became a glass maker at age 14. Some believe that this experience influenced his painting style with dark contours and almost glowing colors. His pieces of clowns and prostitutes were seen to be a moral and social criticism. His pieces became more religious in nature. Before his death he destroyed over 300 pieces of art that he started but believed he would not be able to finish.
