Beveled crystal top and sides, no visible markings, tufted interior. Overall measures 3 3/4'' h. x 7'' x 5 1/4''.
CONDITION: Interior in need of restoration. Chips to bottom corners of both side glass pieces.

Several scattered faint spots, faint discrepancy between exposed paper and margins, faint discrepancy in color with the margin area being lighter.

1052 Click for larger picture APPROX. 15-25 YR OLD TURKISH HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'1'' x 9'9'': This rug has an overall design of large flowers or palmettes placed around the field singly or in groups linked by burgundy and ivory colored vines. The aqua, yellow, burgundy, and ivory flowers rest on an aqua field. The rug looks like it was tea-stained to enhance its appearance. Condition is good. 500

Dubuffet started painting and then gave up because he felt as though he was imitating his contemporaries. Before WWII, he began painting again, rejecting Europe's art traditions as he became the leader of the Art Brut movement. This movement believed that worthwhile art had to be spontaneous and the most spontaneous were children and mental patients; he believed art had much to do with madness.
CONDITION: Hinge mounted with tape, overall browning, margins exhibit sporadic staining, glue remnants, several areas of minimum paper loss due to former extraction of print from original mounting. Not laid, sold as is.

Its fine design includes a round central medallion with a darker center and larger leaves radiating out like spires. The corners of the field are like sections of the center medallion. The rest of the red/orange field has the same larger leaves linked together by vines. The blue ground main border with its light blue guard borders complete the rug.
CONDITION: There is some color run and slight stains in the border, but otherwise good condition.

Miro transformed them from appreciated folk art to masterpieces by applying different materials and techniques.

The four corners are like quarters of the central medallion. The blue/black field and the main border are edged by several medium blue colored guard borders.

Chagall was a very intelligent artist with great sympathy for man's suffering. His Jewish family sheltered him and were reluctant to send him to study art, eventually in St Petersburg. All things Russian were a constant theme throughout his artistic life. Chagall was sponsored to study in Paris and he lived on the same floor of the boarding house as other Jews. He is heralded as one of the founding fathers of surrealism. He used color for emotional effect. When France fell during the war, Chagall was briefly imprisoned and then, with the help of a friend, sailed to NYC with his family. After the war and the death of his wife, he moved back to France which he loved so much.

At the age of nine, Tarkay was sent to a Nazi concentration camp. After his release, he developed an interest in art. He and his family moved to Israel in 1949 and in 1951 he started studying art on scholarship until financial restrictions required him to leave school. Eventually he graduated from the Avni Institute of Art. Tarkay has exhibited extensively and his works can be found in many public and private collections. 1200

Over the years Folon's work experimented with different techniques - watercolor, etching, silkscreen, illustrations, mosaics, stained glass, - which showed the diversity of his art. Folons friends were among the rich and powerful including Jacques Chirac and Prince Albert II.
